Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it last?
A Béton Créatif floor finish will last as long as the concrete - it chemically changes the colour of the top layer of concrete, so it will not "wear off", unlike floor paints or applied finishes. As the foundation slab and screed often lasts longer than the house which is built upon it, a Béton Créatif floor finish can last longer than your house!
How do you do it?
An acid-stain is applied to your cleaned and prepared concrete surface. This colours and patterns the concrete itself. Depending on your design, pictures or patterns can then be engraved onto your floor. Finally, the floor is sealed and finished according to your requirements. The process takes approximately four days from starting to clean your floor to the final finish.
Is it suitable for Underfloor Heating?
A Béton Créatif floor is the perfect conductive surface for an underfloor heating system, as none of the heat is insulated away from your room by the floor finish as it might be by wood or carpets. Because you are adding no extra thickness to your floor, you are conducting all of the heat in your screed straight into the room.
Can you use it outside?
It is perfect for outside applications such as patios or swimming pool aprons. A non-slip finish can be applied to your floor for safe, year-round useage. By laying a solid concrete slab and using a Béton Créatif finish, you will also have a completely weed-free and moss-free outside area with no extra chemicals or weeding work.
Is it waterproof?
Yes. A Béton Créatif floor will be completely undamaged by either localised flooding (a washing machine malfunction, for example) or more serious environmental flooding. Simply mop the floor with soap and water and it will be as good as new. It is also stain-proof, so is ideal for garage and driveway applications where oil-staining may be a problem with other finishes.
What designs can I have?
A Béton Créatif floor is completely bespoke - you can have any design that you want. From a simple quarry tile effect up to complex works of art, we like to make sure that the the only limitations placed on our clients' are those of their own imaginations. If you are stuck for ideas, we offer a bespoke design service to help with inspiration!
Does it have to be new concrete?
No - we can work with any existing concrete surface. Bear in mind that the quality of your concrete will denote the quality of your floor finish though. If instructing a contractor, we recommend a metal or power-floated finish for the best results. We can, however, do some remedial work to existing concrete if necessary.
Is it suitable for bathrooms?
Yes - it is particularly suitable for wetrooms, where tiling very shallow falls and managing the water/slip factor can be problematic and expensive. We work directly onto the screed that your contractor leaves, and can add a non-slip finish to parts, or all, of the floor according to your specific needs.
Can you do it on steps?
Certainly. Decoratively speaking, concrete steps can often be difficult to style. With a Béton Créatif finish, you can make them as colourful, delicate or creative as the rest of your space, indoor or outdoors. We can also add a non-slip finish to make them even safer to use.
How thick is the finish?
We do not add any thickness to your floor at all - the process takes place in the concrete which is already there, by changing the nature of the top 2-3 mm of the finish. Our sealants are extremely durable, but very thin and are of a negligable thickness over a whole floor.
Can you repair existing concrete?
Yes - Using a polymer overlay that is designed to restore and protect damaged, pitted and stained concrete back to the look of a new concrete surface.
What colours can I have?
Any colours you like, in any opacity you like. We work with both semi-translucent stains and completely opaque acrylic colourants to get the exact finish you require.
How do I clean it?
Simply mop a Béton Créatif floor with soap and water to remove dirt and bring it back to it's original beauty. Because one of our floors is sealed over any engraving of "grout" lines, dirt will not adhere to the grout like a commonly tiled floor, but will wipe easily away. Floors can be resealed once every two or so years by simply wiping a sealant over with a dry mop. We do not recommend the use of bleach with a Béton Créatif floor. Outside floor finishes can simply be hosed down as necessary.
